Experts and Regulation

Members of Congress make decisions that drive all aspects of healthcare.

We should hold Congress accountable for unbiased, evidence-based decision making with labor and medicine regulation.

We should also be very clear about what regulation issues Congress does and does not get involved in, and the reasons for their action/inaction.

  • What prescribing limitations, labor regulations and scope of practice decisions are affected by Congress, in any way?

  • What Congressional work has been conducted around healthcare scope of practice?

  • How are the healthcare professions accounting for their scope of practice decisions, by state and by federal oversight?

  • What are the outcome studies, both health outcomes and patient safety outcomes, that shape scope of practice and prescription/over-the-counter decisions? What can be done to build algorithms?

  • Given that the reimbursement decisions come federally to states, how is the federal government accounting for state scope of practice discrepancies, credentialing discrepancies and higher education syllabus decisions? How is Congress overseeing this?

  • When labor issues arise, even complaints, how are State Boards of the healthcare profession accountable to state government oversight, federal government oversight? How is Congress ensuring that State Boards of professions do not give their peers professional passes - as opposed to structured, evidence-based professional regulation?

  • What are requirements, and Congressional requirements, for prescription versus over the counter approvals?  How can these decisions be made without the bureaucracy of Congressional Acts for various drugs?

We should hold Congress accountable for unbiased, evidence-based decision making with labor and medicine regulation, without delay.
